1973 BAJA BUG

Bought this wee Beetle for spares a while ago.

Kept the front wings and going to use the gas front shocks on my 62 beetle, sold the Bonnet, seats, rear wing, steering wheel, headlights off it to recoup costs.

Car has the usual Scottish Rot - bottom 6 inches all the way round.
Plan is to Baja the Car for on and off road daily use.
So will retain the Adjustable front Beam and raise the front end with tall shocks and turn the rear spring plates up and taller shocks on rear also.
Instead of Heater channels I might use box section for strength.

Just been doing wee bits on it when I can.
Thanks to Roy - I have a Set of Wellar 8 spokes for it in 14inch x 6 inch.

Attempted to remove front Gas shocks today - but seized on.
So soaked them with WD40 to seep in.

Thanks to Biz I now have a Mag wheeled BMX to mount on the Baja roof rack when built

If you choose to use box for heater channels, how about something along the lines of 4 x 2 so you can get a free body lift thrown in?
Don't know what style of Baja you are aiming at, but if you want to go expedition style, the chap who did my rail also does exoskeleton kits for bugs
Ttfn Glenn
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is. If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem. Lack of funds is the mother of ingenuity

Thanks Glenn.

That's a great idea.
Yeah plan is to give car great ground clearance for off roading.

From what I can gather - I would have to extend the steering column and raise the front seat mounts in accordance with the body lift.

Baja surgery today

Labelling wires and little 1200 out and off to a new home with John - making way for a 1600.

Roy popped over with his lovely 1303, Biz popped over on his Racing bike (fitness kick)

Engine out

Hinges removed

Stabilised bar thing removed for the 62

Baja moved up the drive awaiting engine, Baja bodykit, tires, Floorpans, Box section Channels.

Is that the pair that kept popping up on Gumtree for a trike ?
Possible source of tires, http://breakers.asm-autos.co.uk/tyre-bay/
Big bank of driving lights on front of cage?
Will get a picture of exhaust next time I get to shed
Ttfn Glenn

Baja losing her front beam - need it for the 71 black bug

I'll build the 71's front beam with adjusters and tall shocks,

Beam donated to the daily driving 71
