Having a major dispute and reckon i am about to lose my fecking temper with the above over a dude that seemed all to keen not to have recorded delivery or 1st class mail only to "not have received the goods that he paid for" (in this case 3 DVD's which he bought for a bargain price). I know i cannot prove anything and i guess how can he be expected to know that my wife did post them as he doesn't know us. The annoying thing however is that Paypal assume that all items will be tracked when it is not the case if a dude has asked for standard 2nd class snail mail and it goes **ts up. Paypal seem to take side of the buyer which is good if you are a buyer! They take the money back off you then tell you that if not hear from you in 10 days then they will refund the buyer and resolve in the buyers favour. I have stated my case in a separate communication with Paypal so will see how it goes. Now i remember why i always used to use recorded delivery as standard that way there will be none of this . arghhh!

I can't stand paypal and I avoid it at all costs.
I sold an engine last night through ebay and because I put a buy it now price I had to accept paypal payments.
So now I won't be able to take the money out of my paypal for 21 days (while paypal collect interest) and if the buyer takes away the engine and files a dispute I loose the engine and the cash.
Sadly there is no alternative to ebay that advertises to the same amount of people but as soon as there is ebay has had it.

There is a major flaw that I was caught up in with paypal.

Say you buy a speedboat ay £50k. You pay through paypal. The speedboar arrives and it's not as described. You want your money back.

If the seller has transferred the 50k to their own bank there is nothign paypal can do.

If you have the postage receipt that is supposed to be good enough as proof of postage the post office will tell you this and if it has gone missing they should be able to compensate you through a long claim process I expect, I've used the receipt and the buyer has not had a leg to stand on, but as a rule now always use recorded and refuse bidders with less than 10 feedback hope you get it sorted.

Cheers for that. Used to use recorded all the time as always thought that one day this could happen and it's the one time (literally 1st time i think) i don't record that it goes missing. Called paypal c/service and it's right that they always take buyers side if no postage is proven. Wife  posted 5 things that week and this is the only effin receipt that she cannae find. Well i went back and just cleared the full refund as if i was stubborn (which is always tempting to me!) i'd end up having to pay and getting bad feedback. Live and learn eh! This might be genuine post gone missing but i'd hate to think that there are buyers out there who would take something then launch a claim just to get their cash back! Good point Dave about e-bay. I was thinking the very same thing last night - Needs a major competitor !

Last year I sold a spare Splitty speedo to a bidder from Kent.
He asked me to send to an address other than his registered E-bay address. I screwed up a wee bit by forgetting this fact when printing off an address label from the PayPal acknowledgement.
Anyway, he claimed he never received it.
Through a lengthy correspondence via E-bay and some saved text messages, it turned out his registered E-bay address was his fathers house. I remained polite and formal throughout, but suspected something dodgy when he insisted it hadn't turned up and asked for his money back.
I had a PO receipt, copied it, sent him an image of it and suggested he pursue the matter with the PO as I had definite proof I'd sent it.
Once he realised I was sticking to my guns and being no pushover, eventually he admitted it had turned up at his father's house. I asked him if he was happy with the general condition of the speedo as described, as it was pretty damn spotless. Got no response and no feedback!
Not the expected result of someone who was happy to find his goods - more a grudging admittance he'd been rumbled trying to pull a fast one. Very dispiriting as most of my stuff for sale is good VW bits I just don't need anymore, but seek a realistic market value.
I hate having to deal with the culture of opportunist t**sers like that when I sell via the Bay these days, but they seem to be in the majority... Ermm

eBay can be annoying but overall it's pretty useful. Only person who ripped me off was a Scot from down borders way. I sold a wireless keyboard once & the buyer wanted to return it (even though it worked 100%) and he went mad when I explained he had to pay the postage. He opened a case with eBay, lost and eventually sent it back for a refund.

Paypal is getting better & can be a really quick way to pay for things anywhere not just eBay. Only downside is the wife gets the emails so she knows what I'm buying.

I have to say in defense of both e-bay and Pay-Pal ,,I find it does give you access to  a larger sourcing  arena ,,,,and as a buyer a little degree of safety net should it be a scammer ,,I bought a Sat Nav at around Christmas time or the lead upto it ,,and as its one I can use on my motorbike also ,,it was around £350 ,,so not the cheapest ,,however it turned out to be a " no show " and despite repeated messages through the "e-bay " site etc ,,I never got any response or contact ,,, but did on several occasion keep messaging ,,,actually more to be able to show in my defense that I had tried to make contact and wasnt getting a reply ,,and in fairness to " Pay-pal " ,,the money they had deducted from my account was refunded in full within about 1-2 weeks ,,which I was actually surprised with as I had visions of a " DISPUTE " taking months to resolve ,,but the sad thing is there are like all walks of live a few rogues who try every devious trick to try to avoid paying ,,but that leaves a bad taste for the rest of us ,,and sadly mostly of the " VW " community tend to be upfront and 100% honest ,,,so we pay honest money to buy things and if selling simply think I need to try to get the most of our hard earned cash back ,,we cant give things away ,,,but your not trying to rip people off either ,,but I suppose if selling you really do just have to say to the buyer ,,as they are paying the transport costs anyway ,,I`m sorry but it has to go via a " traceable " source of delivery,,
